One of the borough’s most appealing features is the access to outdoor recreation, thanks to the Ramapo Mountain State Forest just on its doorstep. This park comprises thousands of acres of trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and wildlife watching. Among its highlights is Ramapo Lake, a 120-acre mountain lake with forested shores, and the Castle Loop trail that brings walkers past the ruins of the former Van Slyke Castle, with stunning rock overlooks and woodland vistas.
